We moved!
Visual Art Exchange is now located at 309 W. Martin Street.
WRAL did a piece about our new neighborhood and how the warehouse district is becoming the new arts area in downtown Raleigh.
VAE is moving to a new space and we are so excited!
As you know, VAE has been cramped in its 1,200 sq/ft City Market gallery in recent years. The new space is 4,080 sq/ft, which means we will have more than 3 times the space to exhibit the work of our artists AND have more room for programming, including classes and workshops.
The space is located at 309 W. Martin Street, just down the street from the new Contemporary Art Museum in a neighborhood that is emerging as Raleigh’s new art district. In fact, the district has lots of art already – we will join The Galleries and Studios at 311, Flanders Gallery, Designbox, The Curatory, and will still be the same distance from Fayetteville Street. It’s actually only a 10-minute walk from our old location in a great neighborhood with plenty of parking!
This was a carefully planned move, with input from members surveys, the board of directors, the advisory council and a task force that focused specifically on researching spaces and neighborhoods. The space is over 4 times larger than our current space and is an incredible value. This will double the size of the exchange gallery in the storefront, double the size of the main gallery and allow VAE to add a new exhibition space we are calling “The Cube.” The Cube will allow for a year round schedule of exhibitions and an expanded opportunity for artists who work in alternative mediums, similar to the current Annex space. The main gallery can be used as a larger gallery space or can be split into two exhibition areas, allowing VAE to add many new exhibitions and expand the number of artists in our current exhibition schedule. We will also have more storage, adequate office space and will add a meeting space, which will allow us to take better care of your artwork, have more room for volunteers and interns and eliminates the need to spend money on off-site storage.
Feel free to check in with us if you have any questions about the new space and how it will allow us to improve and expand our exhibitions & programs.
